The arrival of a child incurs immediate expenses that public assistance does not always cover. Some health insurance providers offer a birth bonus to complement the CAF system. Mercer mutual insurance includes this benefit in its range, with amounts varying according to the chosen plan. Understanding the eligibility conditions, the payment process, and the steps to take helps avoid missing out on a sum that can represent several hundred euros.

Mercer birth bonus and CAF bonus: two distinct systems

When we talk about a “birth bonus,” confusion is common. In reality, there are two different aids that can be combined.

The CAF bonus falls under the young child welcome benefit (Paje). It is paid subject to income conditions by the Family Allowance Fund. Its allocation depends on the household income and follows a schedule set by regulations.

The Mercer birth bonus, on the other hand, is a contractual benefit linked to your health insurance. It does not depend on your income. Its amount and access conditions are defined in your contract’s guarantees, not by law. Therefore, you can receive both aids simultaneously, as they belong to completely separate systems.

This point is often misunderstood: receiving the birth bonus from Mercer does not prevent you from benefiting from the CAF bonus, and vice versa. Both can be combined without a common ceiling.

Amount of the birth bonus according to the Mercer Solution 40 plan

The Solution 40 range from Mercer offers three levels of coverage. Each plan corresponds to a different birth bonus amount.

Plan Bonus Amount
Solution 40 Plan A 150 €
Solution 40 Plan B 250 €
Solution 40 Plan C 500 €

The bonus is doubled in the case of multiple births (twins, triplets). A twin birth with Plan C thus represents a payment of 1,000 €, which covers a significant portion of the initial equipment.

An amount linked to the contract, not to a universal rule

Note: these amounts correspond to the Solution 40 range marketed individually. If you are covered by a collective contract (through your employer), the guarantees may differ. The values displayed for one range should not be generalized to all Mercer policyholders.

Before counting on a specific amount, check the conditions applicable to your own contract. A call to the manager or a review of your information notice is enough to clarify any doubts.

Steps to obtain the Mercer birth bonus

The payment is not automatic. You must request it, following the procedures outlined in your contract.

Birth declaration with the mutual insurance

Registering your child with Health Insurance (CPAM) does not count as a declaration with Mercer. These are two distinct formalities to be completed separately. Registering the newborn on your Vitale card does not trigger anything on the complementary side.

You must contact your Mercer manager to report the birth and request the child’s attachment to your health contract. This step is what grants the right to the bonus.

Documents to gather

The required documents vary by contract, but most requests require:

  • A birth certificate or an extract of the child’s birth certificate, issued by the town hall of the place of birth
  • A bonus application form (provided by the contract manager or downloadable from the member area)
  • A bank account statement in the name of the member for the bonus payment

Check if your contract imposes a maximum deadline for submitting the request after the birth. Some contracts set a window of a few months. After this deadline, the bonus may be lost.

Family benefits of the Mercer range: beyond the birth bonus

The birth bonus is not the only financial lever for families with Mercer. The Solution 40 range includes other provisions that deserve consideration when choosing coverage.

  • The contribution is free for the third child and subsequent children, significantly reducing the bill for large families
  • Support for returning home after a stay in maternity is provided in certain plans
  • A soft medicine allowance (osteopathy, homeopathy) can reach a hundred euros per year, useful for postpartum follow-up

These benefits are in addition to standard reimbursements (optical, dental, hospitalization). The free coverage starting from the third child impacts the annual budget of a family with three or more children, sometimes more than the bonus itself over time.

Individual or collective contract: what it changes

If your Mercer coverage is through your company, the family guarantees are defined by the collective agreement. Your employer may have negotiated different conditions than those of the individual range. The bonus amount, family benefits, reimbursement level: everything can vary.

Ask your HR department or your contract manager for a copy of the information notice. This is the only document that is authoritative for knowing your actual rights.

Whether you are under an individual or collective contract, the process remains the same: declare the birth to Mercer, submit the documents, and respect the stipulated deadline. Every day gained in compiling the file brings you closer to the payment.
